In September 2024's Programme for Government, the Scottish Government announced new legislation to amend the Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000 (the 2000 Act). The Bill was described as:
a first step to update and modernise the Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000 in line with developing thinking and international standards on human rights.
