Professor Eljamel (Full Independent Inquiry) May I ask again whether the First Minister will finally grant a full independent inquiry for the former patients of Professor Eljamel?
The transport minister is in regular contact with the aviation sector and has recently had discussions on services during the summer holidays. Back in May, the minister wrote to the United Kingdom Government about the significant delays at some airports in England, noting that they would concern people in Scotland who planned to travel soon from them.
For all those reasons, that policy has, rightly, been condemned by many. Given that we have heard Theresa May—who as Home Secretary sent “go home” vans around Glasgow—describe that policy in the House of Commons as morally, ethically and practically wrong, all of us have to realise how far the UK Government is going from any moral course on this issue.
However, I agree in principle that it is important that we have an appeals system that is accessible for young people. This may be one area—there are many such areas—where changes that have been necessitated by the pandemic are good changes, which we should look to keep and build on.
