The foundation identified that if the minimum wage was increased to the living wage, the Government would save money; it estimates that, if the 1.1 million workers on the minimum wage and the 3.6 million workers who are paid below the living wage received that level of increase, a saving of £2.2 billion a year could be made as a result of higher tax and national insurance receipts and lower spending on tax credits and benefits.
