*S5M-07910 Johann Lamont: Glasgow to Host World Irish Dancing Championships That — the Parliament notes that Glasgow will host what it sees as the prestigious World Irish Dancing Championships for a record sixth time when the premier event returns to the city in 2024; understands that the event, which has been held for 50 years, is the world's largest and most coveted Irish dancing contest and will see elite competitors, aged from 8 to 30, from around the world travel to the city to be crowned the best of the best; acknowledges that, in 2002, Glasgow was the first non-Irish city to stage the championships and that, by 2024, it will have held it more times than any other destination outside of Ireland; notes that an estimated 15,000 spectators, comprising of teachers, families and supporters, are expected to make the trip; believes that the competition will boost Glasgow's economy by around £10 million; congratulates everyone who has helped with attracting the championships to the city, and wishes the organisers every success in preparing for and hosting the event.

As has been noted during the debate, Live Active Leisure has committed to keeping the Perth leisure centre and the Dewars centre fully open until the end of March 2024. That is welcome news in the short term, and it will, I hope, allow time for Live Active Leisure to work collaboratively with Perth and Kinross Council on a long-term solution.
