*S5M-07910 Johann Lamont: Glasgow to Host World Irish Dancing Championships That — the Parliament notes that Glasgow will host what it sees as the prestigious World Irish Dancing Championships for a record sixth time when the premier event returns to the city in 2024; understands that the event, which has been held for 50 years, is the world's largest and most coveted Irish dancing contest and will see elite competitors, aged from 8 to 30, from around the world travel to the city to be crowned the best of the best; acknowledges that, in 2002, Glasgow was the first non-Irish city to stage the championships and that, by 2024, it will have held it more times than any other destination outside of Ireland; notes that an estimated 15,000 spectators, comprising of teachers, families and supporters, are expected to make the trip; believes that the competition will boost Glasgow's economy by around £10 million; congratulates everyone who has helped with attracting the championships to the city, and wishes the organisers every success in preparing for and hosting the event.
