The legitimate point that Mr Mason has raised will have to be central to the analysis of the issue, along with a range of other matters that will have to be considered in relation to any future actions that the Government may decide to take at some stage in the future.
During a subsequent discussion, the committee agreed to undertake an inquiry into additional support for learning, and we published our inquiry report in May this year. The Scottish Government responded to that report in July, and the committee will be holding a debate this afternoon on that subject, the report and its recommendations.
