I express my sincere thanks to both individuals for their important contributions to the committee’s scrutiny of the bill at stage 1, as well as to individuals who have contacted me directly as convener of the committee or as a constituency MSP, to share their views and experiences.
I accept that the SRC characterised it as an “imperfect” budget, but it is also one that it encourages MSPs to support and to get behind. It has referenced sources of support specifically for retail businesses in the budget.
You might want to ask us questions about work that we have been doing on that, but it is good to see the impact start to feed through in the statistics. As a Central Scotland MSP, I have a particular interest in NHS Forth Valley and NHS Lanarkshire.
In an interesting submission to the committee, Bob Doris MSP stated that he believes that there is clear value in reviewing the SPSO 20 years on, as there has been no meaningful or detailed analysis of the processes and systems that are currently in place.
We set out a vision for a national care service in “Caring For All: A National Care Service for Scotland”—I hope that that has been sent to all MSPs. That partly came out of the Covid crisis.
