S6M-03887: Graeme Dey: Pre-payment Meters in Scotland - That the Parliament condemns the reported higher energy costs faced by people on pre-payment meters, and considers that this is a poverty premium on households on the lowest incomes; understands that 467,000 households in Scotland, including 21.3% of those in Angus, pay for their gas and electricity via a pre-payment meter; is concerned by reports that people who topped up pre-payment meters ahead of the 1 April price rise may have this taken back by energy suppliers, including by Scottish Power and E.ON; notes the calls on energy companies to halt further installations of pre-payment meters, and on suppliers to actively contact pre-payment customers with appropriate and consistent support for those who are struggling, and further notes the calls for the UK Government to cut the cost of pre-payment meter energy to the level available via Direct Debit arrangements.
