The NHS Scotland Prescribing Advisers’ Network provides support to prescribers on the use of alternative products.The pricing and supply of medicines, including the management of medicine shortages, is a reserved matter for the UK Government, and Scottish Government policy officials continue to engage with them to find lasting solutions to minimise the impact of medicine shortages.
Earlier this week, the Royal College of Emergency Medicine published its “State of Emergency Medicine in Scotland” report, and it is pretty grim reading.

The decision to prescribe a medicine, and which medicine to prescribe, is entirely for the clinician in charge of a person’s care, having considered their clinical condition, their safety, and any relevant clinical guidance.

To ask the Scottish Government what steps it is taking to ensure equitable access to medicines for people with metastatic breast cancer, in light of the decision by the Scottish Medicines Consortium not to fund the medicine, Piqray, which is available to patients in England.
