The cabinet secretary will be well aware of the problems that Lanarkshire’s accident and emergency units have been having. In March, only 57.2 per cent of patients in Lanarkshire were seen within four hours, and at University hospital Hairmyres in East Kilbride the figure was 52.3 per cent.

In March, the cross-party group on aviation published a report that called for the creation of an SAF industry in Scotland and for it to be supported by the Scottish Government and the Scottish National Investment Bank.

We plan to communicate the outcome of that investigation by the end of March. I thank the cabinet secretary for that answer, but I am sure that he will agree that third sector-run programmes offering pre and post-discharge support to prisoners can play a hugely important role in reducing reoffending and improving outcomes more generally.
