Financial scrutiny
At its meeting on 26 June 2019, the Committee agreed to undertake financial scrutiny on the current approach to roads maintenance in Scotland and the adequacy of related funding levels.
Those matters require a considerable amount of work and investigation.It was therefore deeply unhelpful to be told less than 24 hours before the committee meeting that Ferguson Marine could not turn up because Transport Scotland had told it that it would be inappropriate for it to do so.
That includes, for example, large landowners such as Forestry and Land Scotland, Crown Estate Scotland, ferry operators, Marine Scotland, ScotRail and the Scottish National Investment Bank.

Interestingly, the Committee made use of reporters for discreet inquiry work, including tasking two 29 committee members with conducting an inquiry into the structure and funding of Scotland’s museums.
