A recurrent message that we have identified is the lack of training and understanding of perinatal mental ill health among crisis liaison and home treatment teams. It is important that actions are focused not just on the specialist perinatal mental health teams because many women will be seen initially by a crisis liaison or home treatment team, yet those teams frequently do not understand the rapidity with which mental health can deteriorate in the perinatal period.
