Report on the Cost-effectiveness of Scottish Public Inquiries - Building up the alternative

The Public Office (Accountability) Bill, which was introduced by the UK Government in the House of Commons on 16 September 2025, includes, amongst others, provisions for a “duty of candour and assistance” (a legal obligation to act transparently) for public authorities and officials when engaging with inquiries, inquests and similar investigations.
