We are concerned about the comparatively low level of take-up of settled status and issues to do with pre-settled status. Overall, this is a difficult and very worrying time for EU citizens who live in Scotland.
I will be candid and say that that is a practicality that we must explore now, given that we do not want a gap in provision. It would be presumptuous of me to pre-empt the committee’s decision, so we are engaged in that territory.
We are actively pursuing other ways to manage the matter. If we try to press ahead with the pre-existing idea that environmental wellbeing can be stretched as far as people currently want it to be, it will come apart at the first test.
However, I will see him this afternoon when I am in the Welsh Government offices to have our pre-meeting, as we sometimes do. We will discuss a range of issues that will come up in the JMC, on most of which we will agree, I am absolutely sure.
