The Scottish Government does not have specific data across all of its funding schemes to separate the financial support it provides to new entrant crofters from the funding support it provides to existing crofters.
The challenge that we are going to have in the revised budget situation is how we identify the funding to support businesses in which we might want to do some investment and development.
As I said a moment ago, since the start of the pandemic, we have funded the recruitment of 1,400 extra teachers and more than 200 support staff—that will be helping already.
The deals allocate a budget of over £29 million in 2025-26 to South of Scotland Enterprise to promote business growth, and they commit to a total spend of £15.5 million through the regeneration capital grant fund to deliver nine projects in Dumfries and Galloway and four projects in South Ayrshire.
Our chief scientist office is supporting nine major research projects through £2.5 million of funding. They are expected to contribute significantly to the clinical knowledge of the long-term effects of Covid-19, including to understanding more fully the nature of long Covid and possible treatments for it.
