It is as inequitable that a landlord can inadvertently trigger a right to buy in respect of land that the landlord did not know was part of a tenancy as that a tenant can be deprived of a right to buy land the tenant did not know was part of the tenancy.
This would apply, for instance, to a person buying for their adult partner or on behalf of other adult family members, or situations such as co-workers shopping for adult colleagues at lunch.
