There have been 553 amendments lodged to the Bill so far (the final amendment deadline is 18 June, so this may increase, though likely not substantially).
Things become more difficult where there is some foundation or basis for the complaint. There may be substance to it. My attitude has been—the committee may disagree with this—that the motivation of the complainer is irrelevant in that context.
It is all very well having guidelines, but a lot of GPs may not refer to them, may not know about the symptoms or may give the wrong antibiotics, leaving the disease in the body for longer and thereby making it more difficult to treat.
That will be the result of a variety of factors, some of which may be to do with resources and some of which may be to do with the attitudes of individual sheriffs and judges.
We therefore invite the Scottish Government to consider what further steps could be taken to expand opportunities to learn BSL for all pupils in Scotland and whether it may be helpful to “pilot” such an approach in a specific area in order to assess its effectiveness in advance of any future roll out.
