Health Boards, and other NHSScotland organisations, are aware of their responsibilities under the Code, one of which is to publish the name of the individual in their organisation who has responsibility for the operation of the Code.

Patients with those codes do not have waiting time guarantees, but by the end of 2007 the use of those codes will be abolished and patients will be brought into the guarantee system with new rules on how periods of unavailability will be treated.
The present arrangements for dealing with complaints are set out in the code of conduct. It states:"The Standards Committee will normally meet and take evidence in public but reserves the right to decide, on a case by case basis, to deliberate in private."
