I draw that matter to the committee’s attention.I am also aware that the Cabinet Secretary for Justice has replied on the issue of the extra test under the Criminal Procedure (Legal Assistance, Detention and Appeals) (Scotland) Act 2010 to which I referred the committee, saying that it will be under some kind of review.

It almost seems as if there is a degree of micromanagement in not allowing the local officials on the ground to get on with the job and use the extra resources to best benefit and sometimes, unfortunately, in using initiatives as photo opportunities, which is not what really what the budget is all about.Any of the witnesses can probably answer my question.

It was fundamentally wrong and a costly exercise.I have not seen anything to make me think that there is major potential for equal pay issues to arise, although we need to be careful around the extra payments that come on the back of the public sector pay freeze, such as the £250 for the lowest paid.
