Facial recognition: how policing in Scotland makes use of this technology - Moratorium

The Committee called on the UK Government to issue a moratorium on the current use of automated facial recognition technology, saying that: “We reiterate our recommendation from our 2018 Report that automatic facial recognition should not be deployed until concerns over the technology’s effectiveness and potential bias have been fully resolved.

Some officers indicated that they were sceptical about the technical capabilities of the technology, and that they did not seem to trust a technology which is automated and dictated by non-human actors, such as computers.
