To avoid the democratic uncertainty and lack of accountability that occurred in England’s local elections between 2020-2021, there has to be an expiry date to any postponement. This was rightly recognised in the Scottish General Election (Coronavirus) Act 2021, and the Committee should satisfy itself that the Bill provides for such an expiry date of any postponement beyond which an election must be conducted.

Minutes of the CPG on Visual Impairment meeting of 8 December 2021
The minutes referred to Accessible Voting and Terry Robinson asked what provisions are being made for the election in May 2022. Stuart McMillan reported that the Minister for Parliamentary Business, George Adam MSP, has been invited to give an update at the next meeting in February/March on this topic.
