The next revaluation is not far away—new values will come into effect on 1 April 2023 based on rental values on 1 April 2022. We chose to delay the revaluation by a year and bring forward the one-year tone date to allow time for the property market to adjust post-Covid.

As someone who has for, I think, five out of the past six years had a holiday in either Orkney or the Hebrides—I will have to get to Shetland for a holiday sometime, Beatrice—I am acutely aware that the holiday season on our islands is short, and that the ferry restrictions, although the ferry journey is a lovely part of a holiday, will add another level of cost.

On the crisis that we are in, I do not know what planet Sandesh Gulhane is on: the governor of the Bank of England has referred to “apocalyptic” food prices, and the governor of the Bank of England is not known for hyperbole.
