Last week, the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport committed an additional £1.5 million to bookstart Scotland to encourage parents to read with their children.As part of a curriculum for excellence, literacy skills have been identified as a key factor in ensuring that our young people become successful learners, effective contributors, confident individuals and responsible citizens. The development of literacy will be a key theme across the curriculum, with all teachers having responsibility for promoting language and literacy development.
