*S6M-10005 Alexander Stewart: Scotland’s Finest Woods Award for Doune Community Woodland Group, Doune Ponds—That the Parliament congratulates Doune Community Woodland Group on Doune Ponds, after it won the Small Community Woodland Group category in Scotland’s Finest Woods Awards for 2023; understands that, since the group took over the project in 2014, the ponds, which were previously described as unloved, have been transformed by the diligence and commitment of all the volunteers involved; considers that they have also been recognised a number of times and that the ponds are now considered as a wonderful asset for the whole community; acknowledges that Doune Ponds were the winners of Scotland’s Finest Woods Awards in the Community Woodland category in 2017, and that they were shortlisted for the RSPB Nature of Scotland Award and came "highly commended" in Scotland’s Finest Woods Awards in 2019; notes that the majority of work carried out at the ponds is by a group of dedicated volunteers, who have committed time and energy to making Doune Ponds what it is today; understands that the group meets every Wednesday morning to carry out all manner of maintenance tasks as well as major projects and that it also runs community weekend volunteering sessions for anyone who would like to attend, and commends everyone involved for their tireless work and dedication in this regard.
