Background
The Rural Affairs, Islands and Natural Environment Committee undertook its pre-budget scrutiny in advance of the publication of the Scottish Government’s 2023 to 2024 budget.
Introduction
A Tobacco and Vapes Bill was originally introduced in the House of Commons by the Conservative UK Government at the time on 20 March 2024 and subsequently reintroduced in modified form by the newly elected UK Labour Government in November 2024.
In a letter to the Committees on 5 February 2024, the Cabinet Secretary for Justice and Home Affairs advised that the Scottish Government is committed to the MAT Standards being fully implemented in community and justice settings by April 2025, and sustainable across all settings by April 2026.
