We had two options: redistribute resources across the police forces or increase the general funding for the police. We decided to increase the funding and have already found £11.5 million of the £15 million and the results can be seen on the ground.

Although we are having discussions with the island authorities, I am not convinced that having them as stand-alone units is the best way in which to protect their interests. Funding has also been raised. At the moment, each island authority has separate, ring-fenced funds.
