We certainly want to encourage community groups to getactive, organised and involved in solutions—sometimes before they identify problems, because it sometimes takes a problem to arise before people want to become empowered and get organised.
Given your role as statutory bodies, how do you think that CPPs can measure the impact of activities and make connections between local activity and broad outcomes?
I can only go on what has happened elsewhere across the world and where cameras have been used effectively in fishing operations to provide a greater understanding of the impact of fishing activity on non-target species as well as on target species—let us not forget that we also get a richer understanding of that.
That is a great example of how the success of individuals and teams can have a strong influence on others getting involved in sport. As a country, we need everyone to become more physically active.
We are broadly supportive of that and, obviously, the provision remains that you get an individual authorisation, or potentially a general authorisation in relation to the register of competence, to undertake those activities.
The organisation runs a range of activities, both online and in-person, online activities which were started during COVID were found to be very beneficial so have been maintained alongside a reintroduced and expanded in-person suite of activities.
