Here is a reality check. Between 2018 and 2022, there was a 34 per cent decline in the number of entries in higher French and a 38 per cent decline in the number of entries in higher German, whereas in England, over the same period, there was a 5 per cent increase in GCSE French and a 12 per cent increase in GCSE German.
For example, views of our online advice pages for help with bills and for people struggling with living costs were up and views of pages on food banks and crisis help were up considerably.
