I am delighted that the A77 has been given priority, but I will believe it when work starts, because there remains a question over the funding and there is a lot of concern in Ayrshire that a statement of good intent may be nothing more than that.

Speaking as the convener of the Enterprise and Lifelong Learning Committee, I believe that the minister should consider the possibility of transferring responsibility for the SAC to either the Scottish Higher Education Funding Council or the Scottish Further Education Funding Council.

I do not think that the problems are fundamentally the fault of businesses for not coming forward with schemes. There are funded agencies in place that exist to develop the economy.

I asked whether the clerks felt they had to attend meetings to get information or whether I could receive funding for one of my own support staff to take notes if I have to visit salmon growers in Shetland.
