The SFC further notes “spending as the year evolves can be significant”, highlighting provisional outturn data for 2022-23 showing that spending was almost £1bn higher than expected when the budget was set.
We were told in November that it would reopen for the 2024 season. The reopening date became 4 December, 20 December, early January and then early February—in time for the school holidays—none of which happened.

The aim is for that to be audited and finalised by spring 2022. That will be followed by further work in summer 2022 to develop a wider output, including that relating to local authorities.
The Parliamentary Bureau considered the Committee’s correspondence at its meeting on 24 February. It also considered a letter dated 18 February received from the Member in Charge of the Bill, Monica Lennon MSP, regarding potential options for how the Bill could progress in the remainder of the parliamentary session.
We would welcome the opportunity to give evidence to the Committee on an alternative date and would seek to accommodate any date proposed by the Committee between 9 and 12 March 2026, if possible.
