The EOC Scotland agreed to be part of that process and was grateful for the opportunity to be closely involved in supporting mainstreaming equality in the new structural funds. The EOC's view was that the greater priority being given to equalities issues in the new structural funds was a major development in equal opportunities and economic development policy.
This includes provision in the current year for spending by local authorities of £1.6 billion on community care and funding in the current year of £8.8 billion to the NHS.
I suppose that that support is slightly indirect.Fiona McLeod has put her finger on one of the essential difficulties: we have the role of promoting such projects, but the funding for their research and development has been retained at the Department of Trade and Industry, which is responsible for energy.
Will the UK Government apply for that funding? The member said that the funding "is available", but that is not accurate, as it has not yet been approved by the Council of Ministers and the European Parliament.
