A short life Expert Group on Acute Maternity Services, chaired by Deputy Minister for Health and Community Care, Mrs Mary Mulligan, will convene in February 2002 to develop recommendations on models of acute and intra-partum maternity care to assist boards to configure their services appropriately.

It is unusual for me to have a dispute with Mary Scanlon, but she reflects an attitude that is prevalent in the Parliament and on the Labour and Conservative benches in particular, which is that we should just stay in the devolution kennel and hope that a bone will be thrown to us from on high at Westminster.
