In response, the Cabinet Secretary referred to Stage 1 evidence in support of establishing a stand-alone Sexual Offence Court, adding that (cols 51-52): Principally, and crucially, the benefits of specialism can, in my view, be realised only by bringing together all cases of the same type, from both the High Court and the sheriff courts, in a single forum. That will foster the development of bespoke processes that are informed by best practice drawn from across the High Court and sheriff courts, and ensure that those processes are applied consistently to the benefit of all complainers in serious sexual offences cases across the country.
