During the Committee's evidence session on inequalities in female sport on 23 May 2023, Lynne Glen from Scottish Disability Sport emphasised the importance of listening to disabled women and girls who want to participate in sport and physical activity in order to understand their needs:
We need to get to a place where we listen, hear the voices of young people and use more imagery and more explicit language around encouraging young females to participate in physical activity and sport.
The committee has been talking about childcare, and we are talking about flexible working today. We need to think about getting mums back into the workplace. There is a high level of economic inactivity among mums, particularly single mums, whom we know make up 90 per cent of single parents.
