Local authority returns show that 245 full-time equivalent teachers were employed as a result of those extra funds. The Government supports Scotland's schools and its education system, which is why, in a tight financial climate, we have increased local government's budget by 5 per cent, 4.1 per cent and 3.4 per cent over the next three years.

As a farmer's daughter, I want to ensure that agricultural courses continue, but that is obviously up to the college and the funding bodies. On my visit to Auchincruive, I was reassured that all the courses that are necessary for the changing world of agriculture—to deal with the highly mechanistic tractors that are used and so on—are still available.
