If a new weapon were identified, we would return to Parliament with a new order, using the same procedure that we are using today, to add the weapon to the list.A straightforward procedure is therefore available to the Executive and Parliament should there be concerns about types of weapons that had not previously been considered becoming a problem, and I hope that we would follow that procedure. Essentially, we are specifying weapons under section 141 of the 1988 act.

I am also happy to concur with the Prime Minister's sentiments that, in a modern Europe, it is simply inappropriate for the CAP to absorb 40 per cent of expenditure and that we have to modernise the EU if it is to remain relevant to the people of Europe. Following on from that response, I wonder whether the minister agrees that promoting Scotland's interest...

In my summing-up speech in the debate, I made the point that it is important to have concrete measurements, on which the minister agreed. The committee should follow through on the issue. I will go along with the convener's suggestion, but some of the timescales in our report were over the top with respect to the minister meeting the deadlines.

The issue in North Lanarkshire and South Lanarkshire usually comes down to in-service training days for schools—the South Lanarkshire schools may be on holiday one Monday and the North Lanarkshire ones on the following Monday. That is a matter of days, but mid-term breaks in the east of Scotland are in an entirely different week from those in the west.
