The point that I was trying to make was that investment since the Administration came to office to 2014-15 is 40 per cent higher than it was under the previous two Administrations. I ask Mary Scanlon to reflect on the fact that the cuts are emanating from her Government.

I hope that, in her response, the minister will relate her comments on diabetes to the bigger picture of how the NHS can shift its focus from the traditional emphasis on acute hospital care as the health service's main activity to a greater emphasis on detection, early intervention and support for those who have to live with long-term conditions. Indeed, as Mary Scanlon said, that is what delivering for health is all about.
