Supported by: Kenneth Gibson*, Bruce Crawford*, David Torrance*, Douglas Ross* *S5M-00352 Liam McArthur: Stromness Academy Youth Philanthropy Initiative Finals 2016 That the Parliament commends pupils from Stromness Academy on participating in — Orkney s Youth Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) final; notes that the YPI is an active citizenship ’ programme that raises awareness among young people about philanthropy and the local community; further notes that each participating school is responsible for directing a £3,000 grant to a local charity through a unique programme of team work, research and competition; understands that three local charities, Friends of the Neuro Ward ARI, MS Orkney and Advocacy Orkney, were represented in the final by pupils from Stromness Academy, who all delivered outstanding presentations outlining why their chosen charity should be awarded the grant; congratulates the winning team of Erin Harcus, Erika Hutchison, Jenny McElroy and Eilidh Warnock on being selected by the panel of judges and securing the £3,000 award for their chosen charity, MS Orkney; recognises that this funding will prove invaluable in supporting MS Orkney s ’ work in assisting those affected by MS; further congratulates all those involved in a successful YPI programme, which has developed better understanding and involvement of young people in the work of the third sector in Orkney, and looks forward to YPI being rolled out to Westray and other schools in Orkney in the near future.
