The Human Rights of Asylum Seekers in Scotland - Interpreters

Emma Roddick, Minister for Equalities, Migration and Refugees told us that the provision of ESOL was challenging and “the current demand for services for people who are displaced from Ukraine is putting a lot of pressure on providers and increasing waiting times” but that the Scottish Government was looking at ways to support that. She told us that there is funding issue because asylum dispersal is not specifically funded by the UK government, and they do not have control over what sort of or how much ESOL provision is needed but still have to provide it.
