Since we last met, discussion has taken place on changing the arrangements by which police pensions are provided; that follows what is happening south of the border.
There will be critical points along the way. Following on from the launch, the first meeting of the implementation steering group will take place next week.
We welcome the speedy response to our requests for some of the issues to be followed up. The reply from the minister is quite meaty and there are some issues in it on which members may wish to comment.
Amendment 37 is also confused, in that it has the potential to draw into a regime of sanctions that is proposed in amendment 38 people who do not follow the code fully in reporting a lack of compliance.
That is why consideration must be given to devising adequate surveillance, which lasts long enough and follows through in sufficient detail, so that any potential side effects could be picked up.
In the consultation, the Executive set out in detail why it considered it appropriate to follow the course suggested. I do not intend to repeat all that.
