NHS Blood & Transplant figures for the UK suggest this is a relatively rare phenomenon that’s been getting rarer. Only four patients living in Scotland are recorded as having received a transplant outside the UK in the past five years (although NHSBT noted that transplant units may not always report to them when a patient has received a transplant abroad).
