It is fair to say that the overall capacity across the whole childcare sector, in terms of the number of registered places, remained stable between March 2020 and March 2023. We know from the delivery data that we collect from councils specifically that the number of hours that services offer has increased.
We last considered the petition on 15 March 2022 and agreed to postpone consideration to a later date because we anticipated that we would start a ferry-related inquiry that would deal with the issues that are raised in the petition.
The committee considered the instrument at its meeting on 9 March and agreed to write to Clare Haughey, the Minister for Children and Young People, on several points.
