The broad and inclusive term "additional support needs" applies to children and young people who, for whatever reason, require additional support, long or short term, in order to help them make the most of their school education and to be included fully in their learning, English as an additional language has been identified as a potential additional support need specifically within the Act's Code of Practice. The Supporting Learners Framework also supports those working with children and young people to deliver the entitlement to support for all children and young people to enable them to get the most of the opportunities which curriculum for excellence can deliver.
