Almost 20,000 people responded to our consultation on Lord Bonomy’s recommendations, and the analysis of those responses was published just before the summer recess. At that point, I was appointed Minister for Rural Affairs and the Natural Environment.

As I said, we think that the proposals for rent control areas are inconsistent. On data collection, a backstop date is provided of the end of November 2026, but that means, in relation to the five-year trigger for all local authorities to collect the data, that all local authorities will be working to different dates, unless we say that that must happen by that date.
