Guidance for MSPs not standing at 2026 election
The Parliament has agreed there will be a pre-election recess that will begin on Thursday 26 March and end on 8 April 2026. i.e. the date before dissolution on 9 April 2026.

Item 7: Strategic Updates COVID-19 Response 4 7 .1 Michelle Hegarty provided an update on the current COVID-19 response to gradually bringing back services. 7.2 A gradual phased resumption stages on-site had taken place so far and more services had resumed post-summer recess taking account of the requirements of face masks and one-metre distancing.

As it was laid less than 28 days before it came into force, it is in breach of section 28(2) of the Interpretation and Legislative Reform (Scotland) Act 2010, which provides that a Scottish statutory instrument, subject to negative procedure, must be laid before Parliament at least 28 days before it comes into force (not counting recess periods of more than 4 days)..
