On the same topic, I recall that one of the rules that was applied to the distribution of the funds to the beneficiaries was that if a qualifying Scottish Transport Group pensioner had died, the payment to a surviving spouse would be only 50 per cent of what the pensioner would have received on survivance at the qualifying date. The qualifying date was fixed, which had the consequence that some widows and widowers received the full payment and others received half of it.
