I have a point to make about the revised definition of the start date of a trial. Dates and time limits are at the heart of the Scottish criminal legal system.
All the applications that are in priority categories will have been approved by that date. Are you saying that those applications that are not considered to be in the priority categories are likely not to have been processed by that date?
There is a similar point in relation to the start dates of strategies: the dates in the regulations are more nebulous than one would have expected given the wording of the act.
I am conscious that I may be committing myself to something without knowing its date or duration. In the event of your unavailability, would not it be best to make our reserve our deputy convener?
However, I would not like discussion of it to be postponed until an unspecified date. Much depends on what happens in the budget, over which we have no control.
