The Scottish Executive continues to work and make announcements about its work throughout the year including during recess. Some announcements are timed to take advantage of topical and high profile events such as Scotland Week in Brussels.
Given the timescale because of the October recess, could we ask the Executive for a written response that could be circulated for members to consider before the meeting?
To me and to other colleagues, that is one of the main issues. I hope that, after the Easter recess, I shall be able to report back and that we will be able to discuss how to proceed.

(S2O-10462) We are concerned to ensure an adequate supply of criminal legal aid services throughout Scotland and we are keeping the position under review. Before the summer recess, the minister gave me some very helpful replies in relation to civil legal aid.
One must ask whether that is because a large number of instruments are coming through before the Easter recess. The first such instrument is SSI 2006/135, on which four main points arise.
Subject to the bureau's approval, we can then as a committee consider potential candidates at our meeting next week or at the meeting immediately after the recess, which will be on 22 February 2006.
