The planning assumption that we are making is that the objection and preliminary stages of all three bills will be concluded before the summer recess next year. If our proposals are adopted, the hearing of evidence and objections by a reporter could therefore commence during the summer recess.
The aim is to agree how we will use the remaining weeks before the summer recess, which had been set aside for stage 2 of the Protection of Wild Mammals (Scotland) Bill and discussions on the fur farming bill and land reform, all of which have been delayed as a result of the foot-and-mouth crisis.
We will try to organise it, now that the Parliament is back from recess. There is a feeling that Barlinnie might be an appropriate place for us to visit, in the circumstances.
The visit could take place during recess. Could the committee go to Colonsay on Tuesday during the first week of Easter recess, spend one night there and return on the Wednesday?
It is up to each committee to decide whether it wishes to meet during the recess. If each convener wishes to contact the appropriate ministers, no doubt they could come to some agreement.
We know that some sheriff courts issue a date and some do not. I am sure that the court will do that if it can, although I have described some circumstances in which it would not be possible to issue a date.
