Perhaps all the clerks should liaise on this, because this morning the Public Petitions Committee also agreed to hold a similar away day towards the end of the recess. The clerks will be organising dates and it would be helpful if we could avoid clashes.

A response from the minister that appends a more detailed commentary from the Ministry of Defence has been received.

I appeal to the committee to reconsider the decision to hold the discussion in private.The convener may be aware that, in the three years before the start of the recess, some 43 per cent of Social Justice Committee meetings were held in private, albeit that some of those meetings took place before she was convener.
