Until perhaps a year ago—I am not sure of the dates—that centre offered respite care or residency for seven days a week but, for reasons that I do not know, the previous Highland Council decided to cut the services that were offered so that they were offered on five days, with perhaps six weekends when people could stay.

We recognise that there is poverty in Scotland and that it is extremely important to support people in poverty wherever they are, but we live in an interconnected world and there is a lot of evidence that some of the low-income countries that Scotland supports, including Malawi, Rwanda and Tanzania, as well as those in south Asia, have been hit much harder by the global recession.
